Alice Mawdsley is a London-based travelling reportage illustrator, published Penguin Random House author and visual storyteller. Her practice uses immersive on-location drawing, writing, film and visual journalism to document culture, craft and the people who shape the places we experience.

While her art studio is rooted in London, she spends much of her time living and working abroad. You will usually find Alice drawing on location, capturing real moments as they unfold with her work celebrating community and the shared similarities that connect us all.

Publishing & Commercial Illustration

Alice is the author and illustrator of The Traveling Sketcher: City, commissioned by Penguin Random House (published July 2026 worldwide). The book was written and illustrated on location across several countries, which is the foundation of Alice’s speciality. The Traveling Sketcher: City teaches you how to draw on location in cities, inviting the reader to slow down, look closely and preserve your travel memories through drawing.

Her practice has been recognised by the World Illustration Awards, reflecting a career built on high-level commissions. Alice has a diverse portfolio that spans publishing, reportage, visual journalism, advertising, commercial, and editorial projects - ranging from clothing and product illustration to global prints and books.

Destination Storytelling

Alice specialises in immersive, on-location residencies for tourism boards, travel agencies, and local businesses, helping them tell the story of their destination through timeless visual narratives.

A recent highlight includes her partnership with Visit Sarasota County and Gosh PR. Alice was flown to Sarasota to create live, on-location drawings, engaging social content and an in-person drawing event at the luxury hotel Art Ovation.

By partnering with Alice, destinations gain a unique, narrative-driven campaign and direct access to an engaged audience of over 86,000 travel and art enthusiasts who value slow travel, craftsmanship, and authentic luxury experiences.

Alongside her commercial projects, Alice is deeply passionate about sharing the immersive process of drawing the world. Through her online community and in-person events, she has inspired hundreds of students globally to get out, slow down, and be creative.

For Alice, this practice is deeply personal. Living with several chronic conditions, the act of drawing on location is how she finds beauty in everyday life and settles her nervous system.

"By sharing my own experiences and teaching, I want to inspire others to see the power in art and to continue doing the things they enjoy, no matter what obstacles they face," she explains.
